Sheffield United go into this match at the top of League One. 5 months ago we were bottom of this esteemed division and I distinctly remember writing a post in this very blog about how Chris Wilder would be facing his own 'D-Day' scenario if he failed to win a match against Oxford United. Well, turn the clocks forward to the present day and everything has changed. We are top of this league with a five point gap over our opponents on Saturday and a seven point lead over third placed Bolton. This dramatic turn around has lead to us being two points off our whole points total from last year in February. This has lead to even the most cautious blades fans to start to believe that maybe, just maybe, this will be our year. But before we can start dreaming about a long overdue return to the championship, we have two absolutely huge games coming up starting with this top of the table clash between Scunthorpe United. Scunny have had a simply astounding season under boss Graham Alexander and have been in and around the promotion place more or less all season long which is a massive achievement for a team of its size. The root of their good form can probably be traced back to the attacking prowess of striker Josh Morris. Morris has undergone a transformation from a bit part player at Bradford City to being one of the signings of the League One season, contributing 18 goals and 9 assists to Scunthorpe's promotion charge, non too shabby for a player who Scunthorpe got for free in the summer. The Blades however, have undergone a defensive transformation as well with three consecutive clean sheets. This could be attributed to the re installation of Jake Wright in United's back line. Wright has proven to be a stellar signing for United giving a relatively young back line a much needed confidence boost whenever he plays. His commanding presence in the centre back role has restored some order in a defence that throughout the month of January lacked organisation and was susceptible to conceding weak goals. He will be crucial on Saturday and will no doubt be tasked with handling the disruptive Morris. This match is probably the biggest game of the Blades season so far and could go a long way in deciding who will be declared champions in two months time. The Blades come into this match the better form team, not losing since the end of January however, that does not mean that a stuttering Scunthorpe is not a dangerous Scunthorpe. I expect a heated game with a crackling atmosphere around Bramall Lane. Lose this match and a nervous few months await but if we win this match, and we may have one foot firmly placed in the championship.
