Even though it's only been two games since I last wrote anything down, it's actually been closer to a month since I wrote that review of our last win against Barnsley which we did try our damn hardest to lose. Aside from the two games we'll talk about here today, we've also played matches against Forest and Blackburn (less said about that one the better to be honest). In the Forest game we looked like we'd stolen a win then went on to throw it away literally 5 minutes after scoring and at Blackburn we took the lead through Rhian Brewster(!) who produced a cracking first league goal then got tore to shreds by Chile's greatest export and a lad who I'm sure played for Leeds at one point. So, we're all caught up? Let's talk about Blackpool then.
Game 1: Sheffield United 0-1 Blackpool This was a very frustrating game to say the least but, then again, when hasn't there been a frustrating game that United have been a part of this season? Despite having a plethora of chances in this game including Lys Mousset hitting the bar and MGW going close, United threw it all away when Blackpool and Keshi Anderson exposed us trying our best Arrigo Sacchi Milan impression and failing spectacularly with Anderson's shot sailing past Olsen into the top corner of the Bramall Lane end goal and giving Blackpool a win that was very much deserved. They were compact throughout the game and when a Blades opportunity did pop up, it was quickly blotted out by a backline led by Richard Keough. Not much else to say about this really, part of that might be because we lost and part of it might be that it's been nearly a month since this game happened and I can't remember much else that happened in the game. Surely the Coventry game will be more exciting than this one? Game 2: Sheffield United 0-0 Coventry City Nope, it wasn't. In fact, this game was up there with the game against Barnet back in January 2018 in 'boring games that make you question going to the football' hall of fame (or should that be shame?) Anyway, literally nothing happened in this game until the last ten minutes. David McGoldrick came on off the bench and missed two fairly good chances but then that's pretty much the norm with Dave in games. You get the cracking footballer that can unlock defences with the drop of a shoulder but then can't put a shot between the sticks even if they were the size of The Kop. Aside from that, it was pretty dreadful but Wes Foderingham did do well, that was good to see. And Chris Basham had a very, very, very good game that showed why he should be in and around the team on every single gameday. But yeah, aside from that, boring game. Very bad. And there we have it. So a lot more frustration for Blades fans and Slav as our team continues to struggle to take chances when they present themselves to them and are punished for it. Although we did lot a lot more solid in the game against Coventry with the 3-5-2 making a comeback which possibly has to be the way forward if we want to get points on the board and then reassess the situation in January when new recruits might be coming in. It might mean the creativity that we have had at times this season takes a back seat in favour of defensive solidarity but if that means more points then so be it. A final point just before I go, we actually did win a game last night with our visit to Reading seeing us return to South Yorkshire with a much needed 3 points but, much more important than that is the health of our long serving midfielder John Fleck. During the second half of the match, Flecky collapsed and was escorted from the pitch on a stretcher and was taken to a local hospital for tests. As of this morning, Flecky was thankfully released from hospital after conducted tests came up showing no underlining issues and returned to Sheffield. Credit must go out the to everyone involved in stabilising Fleck with the ref stopping play sharpish and both medical teams getting on the pitch quickly. Enda Stevens and Billy Sharp also showed great composure with Billy even helping carry off the stretcher. It was a night when the result itself didn't really matter and it's just great to hear that Flecky is doing well as of today. I'll see you all soon, until next time, UTB.
